The main contributions are as follows: Firstly, the investigative actualities of the petroleum alkyl pyrolysis and the developmental trend in this field have been described. Different kinds of the theories of hydrocarbon cracking and coke kinetics during the pyrolysis process, and the basic methods of modeling have been studied. Secondly, the ethylene pyrolysis process kinetic model in one domestic plant by using SRT-Ⅳ cracking furnace with the HVGO, and the Hirato model has been finished. A random searching algorithm has been used to adjust the initial selectivities of the primary reactions for the Hirato model. This algorithm can achieve both the C-H equivalence and a high precision of the simulative results. The Treanor numeric integral algorithm has been used to simulate the model, and the compare of the results with the yields data from real furnace of an ethylene plant has been made. Thirdly, based on the model built above, the variations of the distribution of the outlet yields have been investigated by changing the operation conditions (the outlet temperature, the rate of flow and the S/O ratio) and the coke layer thickness. This work would be useful to predict the period of get ride of coke. Finally, the results have been summarized during this design, the possible problems and some incomplete aspects existing in the model build above have been analyzed, and some prospects of the aftertime works have been made.
