  2. However, one of the major concerns in device performance is how to maintain long-term thermal and temporal NLO stability at elevated temperatures. In this research, a fluoro-containing organosoluble and high glass temperature (251 oC) polyimide consisting of side chain reactive groups was synthesized. The reactive hydroxyl groups provide the potentiality for further chemical incorporation. Herein, the hydroxyl groups were reacted with an isocyanate-containing chromophore (DO3-ISO) to form an NLO-active side chain polyimide (PIDO3). Due to the relaxation of side chain chromophores and loose packing order of main chain, the PIDO3 sample reveal poor thermal property (Tg = 165oC). In order to enhance thermal stability, the NLO-active polyimide/inorganic semi-interpenetrating polymer network was prepared to serve the purpose of restricting molecular movement via incorporating inorganic alkoxysilanes. With the inorganic content up to 50%, the Tg of PIPT could increase to 184 oC. On the country, the dye content of PIPT decreased to 13.6% and relatively lower electro-optical coefficient (r33, 5.2 pm/V) was obtained.
