This paper includes two parts. The first one is concerned with CAD/CAM of the helical ball nose endmill. A 6-axis NC tool grinding machine is developed. The geometrical forming theory of the helical ball nose endmill and the theory and method of multi-axis interpolation are investigated. By using an available CAD software, a CAD/CAM system of the helical ball nose endmill is developed. The second part is concerned with computer aided process planning, for which an applied CAPP expert system suitable for box-shaped parts is developed.Ⅰ.
