Using mathematical models such as linear programming to solve optimal scheduling problems are typical NP-hard problems. Therefore, this research uses a heuristic algorithm to find near-optimal solutions for production scheduling problems.

The simulation result for the prediction of coking time in coke oven battery is provided.(6) Because of the neck and knowledge inconsistence of the first generation expert system in solving the fault diagnosis problem, some other knowledge expression models such as neural network, process principle and fuzzy semantics are combined into the knowledge base of expert system, and a new kind of expert system with deep knowledge is developed to solve the fault diagnosis problem, and related steps are provided for designing this kind of expert system. Otherwise, the expert system for fault diagnosis of coke oven battery is designed based on the characteristics of fault generation and propogation.(7) The overall mathematical model of coke oven battery is built, which is suitable to synthesize the control system. Based on the introduction of neural network and heuristic searching, a kind of heuristic optimization structure for the generalized complex industrial process is proposed.

Otherwise, the production scheduling problem, which is limited to plan management for coke pushing for coke oven battery, and the related expert system based strategy are presented, which considered the environment and task as motive, and process constraints and models as heuristic knowledge. The mode of expert system developed can be used to solve the generalized production scheduling problem for industrial process.(8) The integrated control system that combines process optimization and production scheduling tasks is developed successfully for coke oven battery, in which micro computer and programmable logical controller are used as hardware base, real-time multi-tasking multi-user operating system and standard control configuration software package as software base.
