By using NCEP reanalysis data, the multi-hierarchy structures in time and space of precipitation over the SCS are studied, the basic character of the onset and evolution of the SCS summer monsoon are discussed through the change of precipitation and the evolution of winds, sea surface pressures and surface temperatures, the climatic characters of the tropical circulation are analyzed. The relations between the onset of the SCS monsoon and the large-scale circulation are discussed. The SCS monsoon and the India monsoon are compared. The evolution character of the SCS summer monsoon is studied. The synthetic analysis method is used to analyse the difference of climate characters, precipitation structure and circulation between the strong and the weak monsoon years. By using the P-σ regional climate model, the onset and evolvement of SCS monsoon are simulated. Eight numerical sensitivity experiments are designed to explore the effect on the onset of SCS monsoon and Chinese precipitation, which is caused by the anomalies of sea surface temperatures.
